Manchester United’s unbeaten run under Michael Carrick came to an end last night after a frustrating 2–1 defeat away to Newcastle United at St James’ Park. Although I could only catch the highlights, the match seemed to follow a frustrating pattern for United: plenty of possession and a numerical advantage, but a lack of cutting edge in the final third. Newcastle, by contrast, showed resilience and clinical finishing to snatch the three points.
