We did not rise to the occasion!

Man Utd 1

Man City 2

United  have lost the FA Cup final to arch rivals Citeh and my biggest disappointment is that I do not feel the team, as a unit, gave it their best shot.
I was at Wembley today and being present gives you a different perspective. You miss some detail when watching a match live, but you also have the opportunity, if you are attentive enough to note traits not visible on TV.
We got off to a shocking start, conceding the earliest goal in the FA Cup final history but as the saying goes, shit happens. We were shocked, could have conceded a second but somewhat managed to crawl back thanks to a pen (it was a pen). I thought we were somewhat lucky to go in at HT on 1-1 as we had created practically zilch in the first half going forward.
It seemed to me that Citeh were somewhat apprehensive about us and on the other side, we did not have the quality, heart and above all, the balls, to have a real go at them.
This was confirmed, in my view, when we conceded again early in the second half from a dead ball situation. An avoidable goal, fine, but we had more than 30 min to throw everything we had at them and test their keeper. We never did that in my opinion. Disappointing.
Now there will be many analysts who will give us an explanation but this is what I’ve seen from the stands:
1. It is very difficult to build attacks when your keeper keeps kicking balls to opponents. DDGs distribution is atrocious.
2. When your opponents dictate the tempo, players like Eriksen and Casemiro struggle and leave gaps to be exploited.
3. Our front four were poor. Again. Rashford barely had a sniff, Bruno rarely threatened and Sancho seems to have been affected by the Martial syndrome – laziness. Garnacho should have started the final ahead of Sancho. Eriksen was not the right choice for this final in my opinion.
4. We still do the press badly and that is down to the training grounds and manager’s choices. Unless you press in packs and not in isolation, it’s useless. The Citeh back 4 were ‘avin a laugh when our player (just the one) was hunting them down.
To cap it all, when your manager sends on Weghorst to save the match, my heart sank because I realised that we’re doomed. We could have snatched a late equaliser with some luck but luck favours the brave, and we simply weren’t brave enough today!
We needed to turn up as a team and some players let us down today. Ten Hag’s mission is now to plug these players out and ensure that their replacement are players who are willing to shed blood, sweat and tears for the team.
We need to get rid of players who do not do the extra runs, shy away from headers and do not get stuck in for 50-50 tackles and we had a few of them out there on the Wembley turf in an FA Cup final against our greatest rivals!!!……NUMQUAM MORIBIMUR!
