Man Utd 0
Liverpool 3
It was not a good Sunday for us supporter’s. Not only did we get soundly beaten at home against our old rivals, but we also had a confirmation of sorts that we are not making progress, despite some serious changes in both the management and the players who left and the new arrivals.
As early as the 7th minute we had the red flag shown as our opponents had a goal rightly disallowed. ETH dropped Mount and Amad and started Zirkzee up front and Garnacho on the right with Rashford, on the left.
We can debate all night on the individual players, and the mistakes by Casemiro undoubtedly changed the match (he should have been sold and not McTominay), but my main concern is that our overall game has not improved. It would be too early and unfair to make any judgement on the new arrivals. It’s too soon. But the highest earner in the team went missing again and Garnacho and Amad are our best option on the wings at the moment…and yet ETH keeps picking him. And the keeper…still not convinced about him.
At the end of the day, our sporting enemies ran out easy winners, scoring 3 and possibly took their foot off the pedal as it could have been more as the United players lost their composure. 2 defeats in the first 3 matches is not the start that ETH would have wanted – he is already under a great deal of pressure and some supporters are saying that he should go now. I have my own theory on what could possibly happen but not writing it here.
Will Ugarte solve United’s problems? We all hope he will but realistically, it is the system and style of play that should change. We continue to show no urgency in our play, scoring opportunities continue to be rare as our build up is too slow and allows teams to get organised. And at the end of the day, there is one person responsible for all this….I think the ETH will still be there after the International break – said it before the beginning of the season, he needs at least 20 points from the first 30 available and at this rate, statistically, he will be getting only 10 points from the first 10 matches, something needs to change and results must improve – can ETH change his style? Not so sure at this stage… Numquam Moribimur
