Defeat at Stamford Bridge

Chelsea 1

Man Utd 0

Chelsea handed a poor United side the 18th defeat of this EPL campaign in a match in which United were the better side in the first 20 minutes and we thought that Maguire had given us an early lead when he found himself in the box and did what Hojlund simply does not manage to do – finish. It was ruled out by VAR with the slightest of margins but it was a correct decision. The match failed to ignite after that episode and both sides failed to produce quality moments.

With 20 minutes to go, one moment of quality produced a cross which Cucurella headed home unmarked. There was a feeble attempt to react and try to save the game but Chelsea should have been 2-0 up when their striker missed a sitter. They even had a penalty ruled off after a VAR check and my question is this – if the player tried to cheat and win a penalty, which he did, why is it that there was no yellow card – and minutes later a United player gets a yellow for the same thing? Not picking up the referees argument because we have much more serious problems to deal with!

Incredibly, Hojlund was left on the pitch for 90 minutes and the only plausible reason for this is that he will not start in the upcoming Europa League final on Wednesday. Otherwise it does not make sense as it was a performance that was classified as inept by most United supporters on social media. Some called it the worst center forward performance in a United shirt ever!

In reality, the EPL season has been done and dusted for months now so all rests on that match in Bilbao that could save our season, so to speak…Numquam Moribimur!
