Man Utd 3
Crystal Palace 0
A very decent display and a comfortable win on a night when ETH gave an opportunity to the likes of Garnacho, Pellistri, Mount and Martial. Alsop glad to see Varane back and Amrabat making a solid debut.
There are a lot of positives to take from this match but we have to admit that Palace extremely poor today. Garnacho opened the score on 21 minutes, pouncing on the cross from Dalot who had a positive match on the right flank aided by the enterprising Pellistri. Soon after it was 2-0 when Mount delivered a perfect corner – swinging out away from the keeper and towards the penalty spot – and this was met by Casemiro’s header. Game. set and match United.
Palace hardly tried to react in the second half and Martial made it 3-0 for his first goal of the season when he latched on to Casemiro’s cross and finished clinically.
The last 35 minutes of the game were pretty much a formality as Palace only tested Onana once and the Palace keeper had to block a couple of shots late on.
I am hoping that Palace are equally lethargic on Saturday when we face them again but my gut is telling me that it will be much tougher.
Pellistri and Garnacho ran their socks off today and they should feature more often. Mount was decent in the half he played and Amrabat, despite technically starting at left back, put in a decent shift in the 60 minutes he was on the pitch.
Fingers crossed we keep Varane fit for the next couple of months as our defence looks much better when he plays. I’d like to see Hojlund start up front with the youngsters on the flanks in the next round.
Bring on Saturday…NUMQUAM MORIBIMUR!
